How we grew Paired's YouTube channel as a performance channel

What does Paired do?

Paired is the couples app that helps partners stay in love. Each day, both partners answer a question or quiz separately, then see each other's answers, with expert-written games, guided journeys and relationship advice on top of that daily habit.

Founded by Kevin Shanahan and Diego Lopez, it is used by around four million couples. It holds a 4.7 rating from more than 300,000 reviews and has won an Apple Editors' Choice badge and a Google Play Award.

Its audience is made up largely of couples who have been together for six years or more, often with young children, and who want to feel close again. When we looked at YouTube, we recognised a gap in the market for content on how to stay in love, rather than how to fall in love. There was a huge amount about dating and the giddy early days of a relationship, and very little about the trials of the later years—and what did exist tended to feel dated.

They already had the expertise in Aly Bullock, a licensed marriage and family therapist and Paired's Head of Relationships, who is also an influencer in her own right with a big Instagram following. What they lacked was an engine to turn that into a YouTube channel, and that's where Humble&Brag came in.

How did we help?

We started with a YouTube strategy workshop with the Paired team in February 2025. We pinned down positioning and audience, studied competitor channels, and collected the titles that had broken out in the niche. From that came four content pillars: Talk It Out, Relationship Rehab, Pillow Talk and Love Hacks.

We also set some rules for how the channel should look and feel:

  • Production values well above the typical therapist-to-camera video.

  • A woman's perspective, with Aly at the helm, in a space full of male voices.

  • Practical frameworks viewers can use that evening, mirroring the way the app works.

  • Hands-on props such as Post-its and cue cards, which double as visual hooks.

From there we worked as Paired's fractional YouTube team. We scripted each video, shot in batches at our Berlin studio, edited, uploaded and optimised, and published a long-form video every week alongside Shorts.

After the first batch we ran a retrospective with Paired and used it to test new formats: less scripted talking-to-camera, reaction videos built around celebrity couples, a guided meditation, and viewer Q&A. Every new format was measured against the scripted baseline, so each batch told us something.
